Just spray it on. It dries instantly and does not drip. Wipe the floor if you spray it on tile or hardwood as it will make it slippery. It also has a temporary odor if you spray in it a closed room. The instant drying mechanism is alcohol, therefore, a nice side benefit is that it acts as a pesticide against some common plant pests. When you use our product, do not expose your plant to direct sunlight as it will burn the leaves very quickly. It is not recommended for use on ferns or plants with hairy leaves.

The sensor is made of a porous material. When it is moist, no air can pass into the reservoir. This stops the watering process. As the soil dries, the sensor becomes dry. When the sensor is dry, air can flow into the reservoir, releasing the vacuum. This allows the water to slowly move into the soil from the bottom. Capillary action brings the water up through the rootball, moistening the sensor and shutting off the system until the plant needs water again. because this is a vacuum driven system every time you remove the gromet from the filler hole it is important to refill the reservoir.

Taking Care Of Your Plants
It is important to understand that almost all indoor plants were originally outdoor plants. To enable plant growers to raise indoor plants, they cannot use direct sunlight. This is known as an acclamation process. When plants are grown this way, direct sunlight burns the foliage and it dies back. That doesn’t always mean the plant is dead. It may just need to be reacclimated to its environment.

Another major concern for indoor plants is temperature. Almost all interior plants are from tropical areas. That is why they do not like temperatures below 55 degrees for any extended time period. They tolerate hot temperatures very well as long as they have ample moisture. When they have big thick leaves, they tend to lose their moisture through their leaves. When the leaves are small or thin, they lose moisture more rapidly. Most small thin leaf plants also like humid conditions (moisture in the surrounding area) to help them survive.
There are two primary causes of plant disease. They are the mealy bug and the spider mite. The mealy bug looks like white cotton that is sticky to the touch. The pest lives in a cocoon to protect itself and it bores into the plant to feed off of the sap. If it is caught early enough, you can wash the plant with soapy water or, if there is a large infestation, mix a capful of isopropyl alcohol into a one pint spray bottle and spray both stem and leaf surfaces until the plant is dripping. Usually one spraying is enough to kill off the bugs. Spider mite, on the other hand is more difficult. To check your plant for mites, mist it with water from a spray bottle. If you have mites, the spray will get caught in their tiny webs and they will be visible. To get rid of the mites, go to a nursery and buy a mitecide. Spray the plant thoroughly on all stems and the top as well as the bottom of the leaves. Mites, like spiders, leave eggs. Spraying will only kill the adults. The eggs hatch every seven days, so you need to repeat the spraying every week for three weeks.
